It covers both theory (why) and practice (how) of all steps in cataloging both print and non-print materials typically found in a school library. Very detailed read. I had to have this for one of my college classes.

Great for what it needs to do, but it could use some updating.

It has a lot of good info, but it also often points out things that a school librarian doesn't need to know. I would rather it skip these topics or just share the information - don't just say I won't need to know this.

I purchased the Kindle version. There are no page numbers given. This is extremely frustrating when the professor asks you to complete the assignment on page 43 and I have to go and manually count pages.

Yes, I had to buy this for a not so fun class. However, my complaint is that there are many MISTAKES! Like page 111, Table 8.2 should have $a before Myers, Walter Dean and before The blues of Flats Brown, for example.The book is about cataloging, which is all about DETAILS! So get the DETAILS right!

Got the book in great condition!

Like any other college textbook... Nothing to jump up and shout about, but got the job done

Most of us have wondered how well the law protects our privacy, given the rapid pace at which new technologies have emerged over the past few decades. Daniel J. Solove is a law professor who clearly understands privacy law, and its implications (and shortcomings) regarding the Internet. He is, without a doubt, one of the best writers we have on the subject. His writing style is lucid, easy-to-read, and free of legal jargon.Privacy is a big issue online these days, but I don't think the era of Facebook, Google, and iPhones is going to be rolled back any time soon. It shouldn't be, and we shouldn't exhaust ourselves demanding that the companies behind these products respect our privacy. The forward march of technology might be inevitable, but the erosion of how well the law affords privacy protection for each citizen's online activity is far from deterministic. We can still work to enact legislation that will protect all of us. And I'd argue that we should.Daniel Solove has written a brilliant introductory guide to this area of the law. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in online privacy law. If you've ever been even remotely curious about your rights regarding your own digital footprints, buy it now.

Solove has done it again: a fascinating and important work on privacy and national security that leaves no stone unturned and grips the reader with laugh-our-loud moments. Nothing to Hide highlights the stakes in our national security agenda with serious insight and deep analysis. Solove takes apart the arguments and assumptions animating current surveillance efforts, and in a story-telling style, helps us appreciate the full range of their costs and benefits. Solove gives us a set of tools to understand and critically assess emerging technologies of surveillance like the TSA body scans, fusion centers, and the like. A must read!

Before I read this book, I had no understanding of privacy laws. This book was not easy to read for me. I work in the networking CE field and I don't have any background in laws. But I learned a lot from reading this book. It is an eye opener for a non-expert. The book is good enough that I intend to read it a second time.

I don't normally get into legal writings, but this was is different. It gives you clarity as to why your privacy is important and why it is important to protect your rights!While you may start out reading and thinking you have nothing to hide, you will find that you really have nothing to share.

Solove makes this complex topic easy to understand, so much so that it is required reading for our executive staff. If we could wave our magic wand wand and have every citizen of the US read it, we would.

The topic is quite interesting, and the author knows his stuff well. But knowing it and writing it is a different topic. The book gets a little repetitive at times, and is very dry in writing style.

Absolutely fascinating content! Used one of the chapters within my high school English class. Had my students read one of the sections and it sparked a great debate!

Another example of watching something produced by Amazon.com and wondering about the original work AND liking the original work better! The video series Mozart in the Jungle is entertaining mind fluff. Just fun stuff with attractive and interesting characters and mostly engaging story arcs. Tindall's book is much more than that. She narrates her way through her years in the classical music biz in a very engaging manner, exposing her own shortcomings in the process. As a fun-to-read confessional, it would get 4 stars. But I give it the 5th star because Tindall puts her experience in perspective. It's not just a la-dah-dada-dee tale of her trials and tribulations in the oboe biz. The book also slips into researched commentary that uses her own story as a means of making larger points about the classical music business in this country. Very strongly recommended.

Great book. I bought it because I love the series, but the book is very different -- not in a bad way. Both are worth the time. If you are a fan of the show, though, I'll warn you that there are plenty of times during the book when you cannot even begin to understand how a comedy series -- well, more of a dramedy -- came from this book. There is some sensitive subject matter that may be hard to read, and is far from the light, comedic tone of the show. But, once you get past that, and separate the book from the show, this is an amazing read, especially for people with a background in classical music.

This was a blast from MY past. Trained as a classical oboist at about the same time as the author....well, some of the book was greatly amusing, some of it was a trip down memory lane...actually a lot of it was that. It was disturbing and kind of like a huge flashback for me. Very honest and insightful look at the real world of performing. I remember being the guest at a symphony ladies' tea and having them gush all over me..."oh, it must be so much fun to just play music all day long". Gush gush gush.....I was probably making less than a third of what they paid their maids,AND I carried a monster size bottle of pepto in my bag which I would swig right from the bottle, trying to calm the nerves caused by trying to please a real S.O.B. of a conductor. Interesting life to be sure.

I got the book because I had been hugely enjoying the TV series based on it on Amazon Prime; I was astonished at how very different the two versions were. The series plays for comedy, while the book is more sober nonfiction of the development and life of a musician, une vie boheme with sex and drugs (and the ingénue is TB-free) that is more fun in the opera than in real life. Freelancers in a crowded field (and becoming more crowded every decade) musicians live a precarious existence; having been a freelancer myself for ten years, I know what that can be like. Blair Tindall, the oboist author claims to have shirked all or nearly all academic subjects focusing on her instrument, but somehow she managed to develop a clear and lively prose style. Her book is a joy to read, even if it has fewer laughs. And if you have not seen the series, you are missing something wonderful.

Blair Tindall's biography is a window into the inner workings of classical music-making, sort of the sausage-making processes of this over-glamorized industry. Too many qualified applicants for too few job openings is one of the biggest takeaways of the book, followed by unjustified, bloated salaries of music executives, while the creators of these arts are the financial "bottom feeders." Much like greater society itself, actually. There's still plenty of the promised salacious sexual side of that world, for those who are looking for that. Great read.

An ingenue classical oboist gets an education about the underside of a music career and what it takes to become a member of a famous orchestra. It is an opera of egos, human frailties, sex, inspiration, and fundraising.I also like seeing the lives of the young hopefuls who flock to New York with big dreams and small bank accounts, and how they make the best of their situations while looking for love.I loved it and would recommend to anyone who has even the slightest interest in classical music and creativity.

Having watched a few episodes of the show, this was an unexpected deep dive into the writer's life and career in classical music. It gives in depth insight into the industry, lots of behind the scenes, history of many famous players little known to the average person and real slice of life of classical musicians in NYC. Back to the show now, can't get enough!

Anyone who expects this to be like the television series will be very disappointed. It serves as a reality check for anyone thinking about making classical music a career. Ms. Tindall's telling of her experience makes such a career seem to be full of gossip, nastiness, and poverty-not at all as glamorous as the television show depicted.

The book has some interesting ways of presentig the topic but is not for someone with a sound background in physics (in that case you can skip more than half of the book at once). It does expend a lot on basic physics which is not bad, but dedicated to details that are not needed at all for the main subject, which is the principles for engineering in the field of nuclear reactors. Another major problem is the equations editor, very nasty, the equations look nasty with huge parenthesisis where thay are not needed making the reading a bit disgusting. In the nuclear engineering part there are some mistakes but it is not so bad. Another major problem is that for the more interesting examples, they are worked out by programs that are not easyly available, even that some are just academic level stuff, this is a major drawback of many of these books. They should consider some of the more available codes for educational purposes.As a recomendation, try to look the book before you buy it.

Examples are quite frequently incorrect conceptually or incorrectly computed. The writing style is poor and the editor missed many typographical errors. Everything contained in this book is essentially a watered down version of Lamarsh's Introduction to Nuclear Engineering or Duderstadt's Reactor Theory. Quite disappointing.In my honest and humble opinion, this book is not worth the paper it is printed on, not to mention the ink.I did take a course from Dr. Jevremovic, the author, and it was the biggest waste of time of my entire (undergraduate and graduate) college career. To anyone looking to learn about Nuclear Engineering go anywhere but to the UoU while she is there. Not only is it a waste of time, what is taught is incorrect so you have to try twice as hard to "unlearn" what the program teaches you. Don't do it. Just my 2 cents.

I took the class from the professor that wrote this book and it poisoned me away from pursuing a nuclear minor. The book is poorly written and doesnt make much sense at all.

As an introductory Nuclear Engineering or Nuclear Physics textbook, the book fulfills only the minimal requirements. There are none of the marks of a thoroughly constructed book, such as separate sections with supplementary information. These faults were all excusable, until the list of mistakes and typos began to develop. It is inexcusable how blatantly incorrect some of the formulas are in this text. The book needs a serious once-over for corrections.

I am a graduate student in nuclear engineering, so I have read several "introductory" text books over the years. This particular book is not very well written and as previously mentioned includes a lot of physics related information, but offers little in the form of nuclear engineering itself. I would strongly recommend anyone looking at this book obtain Knoll's Radiation Detection and Measurement book for a better description of how the fundamental physics are applied in the real world, and also obtain Lamarsh's Introduction to Nuclear Engineering for a bigger picture about nuclear engineering in general (especially for power reactors). With those two references you can find almost anything you would ever want to know about nuclear engineering fundamentals and more. As for Andrew's comment about blatant errors, that is very true with this book and we had a running tally in class when students found them. I believe it was about 10-15 pages long when the semester ended. Even better, some of the definitions or explanations were verbatim from Wikipedia. So keep that in mind if you are required to use this book for a course.

This second version is very good. Ths is a good text book of Nuclear Physics for Nuclear Engineers. Of course there are other texts, but then there are also many texts about any subject. Maybe the price is a little high.

I watched Narcos Season 3 on Netflix before I knew about this book. I found it after doing research when I was done watching the season - I found out this book was used to write/product Season 3. Since I was enamored with the Cali Cartel and Jorge's stories I immediately bought and read the book. It's an amazing story about Jorge's journey working with US federal law enforcement to have Giberto and Manual Rodriguez arrested - it's a bonus in that process most of the Cali Cartel's members were killed AND the brothers were extradited to a US prison. This is a fantastically written story and the author worked with Jorge for this entire book (via the phone since he was/still in the US witness protection program). highly recommend!

This author tells an engaging as well as a scary story about the man who turned on the Cali Cartel and lived to tell about it. The book tells about the inner workings and the terrifying details about those who work in it. The man who turned on the cartel tells his story of suspense and danger as he attempts to free himself and his family from it.

Took me a while to finish it, very slow reader but I really enjoyed it. Well written as the author really did such a good job conveying what Jorge was going through every moment. I had watched Narco's so it helped me visualize that much more. Good job

After binge watching Netflix new series, Narcos 3 the weekend it came out, I was left wanting to know more about Jorge Saluco, the security chief who brought the California cartel down. This non fiction book it more gripping than the best Robert Ludlum thriller, equal parts fascinating and exciting, a fabulous read!

This book was both informative and a very entertaining read. WCR knows how to provide the information in a very entertaining fashion. Reads like a novel, yet very detailed and well researched. I got this after watching an 80 episode telenovela that was based on the book called "En La Boca del Lobo" which was an amazing show. Highly recommend both, I've learn so much about Colombian political corruption history and how it related to the narcotics trade by reading this book.

A great book from start to finish. Great insight into the inner workings of a drug cartel. I saw a movie that involved the main character in this book and it followed the events quite well. I would add that if the drug cartels of Columbia during the 80's and 90's has your interest, then this book is a must read!

Jorge Salcedo was a larger than life character in the Netflix Narco series about the fall of the Cali cartel. This book amplifies the story in a gripping, heart-stopping way. The book is currently out of print - I hope it goes back into print soon. I would love to give it as gifts to dear friends.

I too as some reviews before mine did binge-watch Narco's Season 3 become enamored with Jorge's character...so I googled him and found At The Devils Table. Narco's did a pretty good job re-enacting the story based upon this authors & Jorge's account. I especially like all of the details that Narco's didn't get into because the story isn't really about Jorge per say but about the Gentlemen of Cali as a whole. As much as Narco's had me on the edge of my seat, so did this book and I already knew the outcome. WIlliam C Rempel and Jorge Salcedo (wherever you may be) thank you for telling your story and God Bless.
