Purchase "A Wedding Ceremony to Remember," Perfect Words for the Perfect Wedding. By Marty Younkin. Really updated and perfect to meet so many couples hearts for THEIR Perfect Wedding.

Thsi is a great book for weddings and funerals. I review manu books about these topics, this is one of the best.I recommend this book for all pastors and Christian Leaders.

All of Malphurs works are worth consulting. This handbook is a valuable resource for Christian workers as wellas anyone planning a wedding, funeral, or any other special event.

Info is great but organization is a little tough to follow. Not millennial contemporary, but also not your grandma's church kind of traditional. The practical advice is the best part.

Excellent ideas, very helpful and covers a lot of situations. Recently, I was ordained and found this great when planning what to do and say at the first wedding I was asked to do for a couple.

One of the better guide for Weddings and Funerals I have used.

Although this is not my first go-to book when I'm writing a ceremony I have found some helpful ideas throughout, especially when I've needed formating and structure for a funeral. Heavily Christian, and probably a nice addition to a strictly Christian pastor's library. As I tend to officiate ceremonies for people who are spiritual but not necessarily religious,this is a book I don't use very often. However, I am glad to have it as a resource.

Very helpful & up to date. I was able to take excerpt from several different areas in the book to officiate a wedding. Many other books are too archaic for couples under 60.Also helpful with poems used a my uncles funeral.

I bought this book as a gift for my husband after we read an online article about the book. Because of the online article, we knew what we were getting into. I love that this book is a hilarious take on the dangers of taking literal translations from scriptures. We keep this book with our coffee table books, and it's amazing the number of guests who pick up this book to start browsing it. The MAJORITY of our guests start cracking up (and these are people spanning numerous faiths, and along the levels of faith spectrum). My one negative-star for this book, is that I was disappointed with how small it was. I didn't pay attention to the page numbers when I ordered, and was expecting something a little bit heftier. It appears that the authors have released a Volume 2, so I plan on picking that up at some point. As a warning: this would fit in terrifyingly well with children's books though, as far as design/size, so be sure to keep this separate from your kid's books...unless you want to answer some interesting questions.

This book is excellent at getting your mind working over the details of all the crazy stories in the Bible! It's absolutely worth the buy for atheists and christians alike!

I think this book could be accidentally overlooked by many people as a "mock kids book". It is so much more! Seriously! This book starts with the simple fact that the majority of Christians can't even name the four gospels of the New Testament before challenging readers (Christians and atheists alike) to really THINK for themselves about the role the Bible has played through history and how it continues to influence our lives today!THE POSITIVE: First, the illustrations are absolutely fantastic. Not just because of their colorful style, but because of all of the subtext and undertones that they hide for the reader to find again AFTER they read the commentaries in the back of the book. And, as for the analysis essays, I'm pretty sure the author could write books on Biblical history and the sociological influence of Christianity through the ages. (who knows? Maybe they have under their real name?)My favorites (for very different reasons): Jesus and the Leper, Lot's Daughters, and the story of Job. (Actually, I can't choose - there are too many powerful messages to explore...)THE NEGATIVE: The ONLY thing I didn't like about this book was the foreword by the fake "God" from Facebook. It doesn't need it. In fact, I think it detracts from is otherwise a very well written, very witty, very challenging book. Seriously, why did they invite a "fart humor" fake celebrity to be a part of this book?I bought three from the author (which all came signed) and then got a couple more via Amazon for friends overseas. Everybody is RAVING about them! Best gift book ever! (logic and reason)

This book is so funny and so educational too. It may appeal to me more since I am an atheist but I think it should be able to make anyone with an open mind think about the bible in a slightly different light. I think that so many of the stories we take for granted since we learned them when we were kids are truly awful if we really examine them. For instance, we make Noah;s Ark into a children story and often have infant Noah themed items, but really it is a story of GOD committing the world's worst genocide ever. Ask yourself how that belongs in a child's nursery. I would love to see this book spread widely and used to teach alternative views.

This book has it all -- murder, romance, trials and tribulations, anger, jealousy -- it's like a microcosm of humanity all rolled up into some rather clever pictures and quotes. Some may argue that this book takes bible quotes out of context, but then again, it seems like most (if not all) bible discussion does the same (i.e., focus on the things we like, ignore the things we don't). I shared this with a friend who calls herself a Christian. She was so disturbed by it, she gave it back after reading only half of it. If it made her think, then it's a win for everyone. In all seriousness, this is an excellent book for sparking conversations and thinking about how we built a culture around a stone-age tribal worldview.I loved this book, and am waiting impatiently for Volume 2.

this is a great book for multiple reasons, 1) it truly is funny. 2) it brings to light several of the over looked passages in the bible that most casual believers don't know about and that many devout believers actively ignore. 3) it is a great way to broach the subject of biblical illiteracy and many of the inconsistencies and flat out horrible things in the bible with your religious family members (provided they have a sense of humor) 4) because all the illistrations site the actual chapter and verse when your super religious uncle says "that's not in there!" you can direct him right to it in his personal bible. if i have any complaints it's that i wish it were longerthis book is called a parody quite often and i don't think that is correct since parody involves changing the source material to make it funny. this just exposes the actual source material as the joke that it already is.... is there a word for that? satire i guess would be more accurate.

This book surprised me. Yes, I am a huge Rush fan and I have the utmost respect for Neil Peart. However, I read this based on my love of cycling and have a keen interest in the adventures it brings as well a the grueling nature of long touring on two wheels. So my expectations were that this would be a focus of the book. There was some of this but not so much in a technical nature and not much content was dedicated to that directly. I was not disappointed but realized I had assumed incorrectly.The direction of the book is much more of an over all experience of the journey and the education received along the way. Cultures, interpersonal relationships, conflict both large and small, sympathetic reactions, tempers and personality conflicts. I was also impressed with the very open and honest comments made throughout (some of which were really surprising coming from such a mild mannered author). Peart is never personal about his criticisms as most of it is internalized....that is to say how he reacts to situations and people along the way. He can be judgmental at times but in his shoes I think anyone would be. He approaches the trip (and prose) as just a guy on a bike and not as a world renowned lyricist and drummer.As you can well imagine the tour taken here by a small group of strangers was difficult and it tested wills. However, the writing focuses on the authors means of taking it all in, being patient when there was none to spare, being assertive when required and remaining a strong individual as a member of a team. From The Masked Rider you will gain an insight to the author and you will probably think twice about taking such a journey. Mosquitos! Filthy floors! Sketchy toilets! Wonderful people!A great read for anyone. Well written, open, honest, entertaining and very educational. Kudos to Neil Peart who clearly absorbed much about African culture and history which he shares key portions of to make the book much more internationally engaging. I have read reviews that state he did not enjoy the trip and I disagree. He focuses on the difficulty of many aspects of it yet he never misses a moment to share in the grandeur of Africa and many of the interesting/perplexing/crafty/wise people who call it home. He certainly knew it was going to be a challenge which is why he took the journey to begin with and he got just that.Highly recommended.

Peart did a great job keeping notes on his journey, and he was able to put together a wonderful tale that brings us along on this small-group trek through Cameroon. Delving into his personal quest to live through Cameroon's sights, smells, music and the people he meets let us peer into the mind of a truly great talent. Even his humanity is on stage as he internally deals with a rider who drags the group down, the unease of encountering checkpoints with heavily armed forces with dubious motives and even the catcalls and overt racism he encounters as a true minority Anglo in an African country. Most travelogues don't get this deep, but Peart brings us along for the ride, both in the saddle and between his ears.We've all faced adversity of one type or another, and Peart's diplomacy when faced with frustrating situations is a lesson I will take away and use myself.

This was Neil's first book, written several years before his next one (and which I'd read first, "Ghost Rider"), and provides a flashback that shows a bit of the person that Neil was. Set in the context of his cycling trip through West Africa (Cameroon), you get to see some of the country and people from a much more interesting and in-depth vantage. No tour bus, hitting all the tourist traps and staying at hotel with all the modern amenities, the small group cycles through the countryside and spends the night at villages along the way. You get a glimpse into the lives of the people there, but it's also a somewhat superficial one, as the language barriers (Neil doesn't speak French fluently, and most of the Cameroonians don't speak English beyond a few words or phrases they've picked up) prevent much in the way of dialog.The cycling group also never seems to gel, the disparate personalities keep them from being anything more than temporary travelling companions. I would love to read a similar book about other trips that he's taken, where he develops more of a relationship with his companions just to see how things differed. Neil recognizes how he does contribute to the overall stand-in she's of the group, but as he travels and comes to have epiphanies about their various personalities, it doesn't seem to make much impact in how he related to them. He mentions Steinbeck's quote about allowing others to help you here as well, but "Ghost Rider" also never has long-term travelling companions like he does here, so it's not clear if he's changed much in that regard.He's pretty frank about the challenges and day-to-day issues with the trip, including bouts with the local microbiota, and while a trip like this is (sadly) probably never in the cards for me for several reasons, it did remind me of some half-formed plans to spend the turn of the century on safari with my best friend. We never did that, but graduation for my oldest is approaching, and maybe in a few years I can convince my wife that this would make a great gift for her.

This memoir of taking a month-long bicycle tour through Cameroon is as close as I'm ever likely to come to Cameroon or to taking a bike tour. But that doesn't mean I'm not interested in Cameroon: I just don't want to endure the hardships that the 5 riders endured. Namely I don't want to bunk down in the back of noisy bars, be bitten all night by mosquitoes, encounter drunken soldiers at military checkpoints, or subsist on sugary sodas and "rice with some kind of junk on it". Some aspects of his trip were also pleasant and fascinating, but you have to put up with the downside to get the upside. I'd rather read about it. His writing is sharp, observant, and never tedious. The description of the interpersonal dynamics between the 5 riders is clearly depicted too. It's the first book I've read by Neil Peart, and I've ordered another.

The unique illustrations combined with the basic principles of Koch's original book makes this volume come alive. The basic theory is based upon some research which showed that in most things, 80 % of the work and achievements in the world are done by only 20 % of the people. This basic principle applies to just about every kind of area of life you can think of, and the author emphasizes that a person can achieve much more with less effort by Applying the 80-/20 principle.I have not read the original book but I found this volume explained and illustrated the principles so that it was clear and concise. Whether you have previously read the original book or are seeking a good overview of the 80/20 principle, you may want to check out this volume. The author explains that he was surprised there was a lot of articles about the 80/20 principle but no book on the subject... You bet, who would write a 250 pages book on something that could be explained in 3 minutes?The 80/20 principle itself is amazing indeed, but 95% of the points of this book come from 5% of its words. The same SINGLE idea is explained in 20 different contexts each repeated 20 times.Just read an article or introduction about the 80/20 principle and that's all you need to know really.

Some people have cynically commented that you only need to read 20% of this book, and the rest is all repetition.Those people do not actually understand the fractal nature of the 80/20 principle - how pervasive it is, or the extent to which you really need to immerse yourself in these concepts. Their opinions are worthless.I first read this book in 2003. I got to page 14 and Richard was explaining how 80/20 is closely related to chaos theory. I suddenly had an epiphany - making realizations that weren't even explicitly stated - and realized that inside every 80/20 is another 80/20, and another and another. 80/20 is fractal!Suddenly I looked out the window and saw 80/20 EVERYWHERE - in the trees, in the street, in the carpet in my house, in nearly every column of every spreadsheet in my business. Before I'd barely seen it at all, and even then only in the rear view mirror. After, I saw it everywhere all around me.At the time I was just starting to crack the code on Google AdWords, and I realized 80/20 is the key to pretty much everything in AdWords. And in marketing itself. 80/20 became my secret weapon. It was the backbone of AdWords and I included an 80/20 chapter in my very first ebook, "Definitive Guide to Google AdWords" which eventually became Entrepreneur Press's "Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords" which is the world's #1 book on internet advertising. It also inspired my book "80/20 Sales and Marketing."Richard makes a key observation, which is the difference between 80/20 ANALYSIS and 80/20 THINKING. Analysis is backward-looking. 80/20 Thinking is forward looking. It's been worth many millions of dollars to me in my career.

A small but good book with a general history of the Dragoons and a good description of their uniforms and weapons, which I found difficult to find from other sources. Very well illustrated well worth the price.

Dragoons were introduced into the US Army for the purpose of patrolling the overland routes to Oregon and later to California. They were the first mounted troops to be raised in many years.Their lineage can be traced to today's cavalry units.All of the work done by this author has proven to be well worth having, provided you have an interest. He has spent many years gathering and interpreting his information. One of his specialties is combing various works for narrative commentary. He is especially known for ferreting out contemporaneous images of the clothing and equipment in use.

I would recommend this little jewel to anyone, but especially to someone who has no previous knowledge on the subject. The Smithsonian photo of the folding forage cap is worth the price by itself. A great little concise overview. I only wish they had included a photo of Hall's Breechloading Carbine.

In this picture-book memoir, an adaption of Fatty Legs (2010), Olemaun (later known as Margaret) an Inuit, recollects how she begged her father to attend the church-run Indian residential school so she could fulfill her cherished dream to learn to read. Once there, what she discovers is the school is draconian. Using a simple, direct tone, Olemaun describes how a nun cuts her braid, changes her name, and assigns an endless list of chores. Classmates tease. Even as she labors, Olemaun finds strength in memories of her father’s love and uses every opportunity to study the alphabet and sound out words. Effective shadow-ridden illustrations capture the pervasive atmosphere of abuse, but the final picture speaks volumes about Olemaun’s determination and triumph: her face appears as large and shining as the sun emerging from darkness, because she has taught herself to read. A historical note providing context would have been helpful, but advanced readers can turn to the authors’ longer work. In When I Was Eight readers get to see what it was like for a young Inuit girl to leave her family for a residential school. There are some very negative experiences there for her, but it is also a time for her to discover her own strength and determination.I have been happy to see more and more children's literature and non-fiction about the residential school era in North America. This is a time in history that our country should know about and should remember. I think there has been healing in the sharing of these stories and the more people that hear them, the better off we all are.This also fills a gap that we have. I am looking forward to more picture book memoirs like this.

When I Was Eight by Christy Jordan-Fenton and Margaret Pokiak-Fenton is an adaptation of Fatty Legs, in which Olemaun recollects her negative experiences in a church-run residential school. Because I have read both books, as I review When I Was Eight, I will also be comparing and contrasting the two versions.I'll start with what I liked about When I Was Eight. The well-crafted writing style stands out more in When I Was Eight. There are many active verbs, such as "shrugged" and "begged". In addition, there's a lot of figurative language, such as "the sun slept" and "slumbering ice". The strong word choices exist in Fatty Legs too, but they feel more prevalent and significant in a picture book. When I Was Eight would make for an excellent mentor text in elementary schools.When I Was Eight is also more focused than Fatty Legs. The latter is about Olemaun (Margaret's Inuit name) and her family, her friends, her desire to read, her conflicts with a mean nun and brother, and more. In contrast, When I Was Eight is solely about Oleman's determination to read enabling her to withstand all forms of abuse from a nameless nun. In fact, the story is so tightly told that it develops a fairy tale quality, where the young heroine must battle an evil grown-up. Because of its overt theme, teachers could use When I Was Eight to help reluctant readers see how the power of books can change them.Next, I'll turn to what I didn't like about When I Was Eight. Due to the brevity of text required of a picture book, some important details were left out. For example, When I Was Eight tells readers that Olemaun enters the laundry room, stands beside a huge vat, and then "gets an idea" about how to get rid of the red stockings. In contrast, Fatty Legs tells readers tells how a tear vanishing into bubbling water gives her that idea.In my review of Fatty Legs, I highlighted its realistic characters because sometimes books that depict atrocities resort to portraying all of the "enemy" as evil but Fatty Legs avoided that trap. Well.... as I review When I Was Eight has eliminated the friend who provided support to Olemaun, and the kind nun, and really anyone who seemed nice. Instead Olemaun is on her own in her determination to read.Some critics have lamented the absence of a historical note in as I review When I Was Eight . I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, in Fatty Legs I greatly appreciated the scrapbook and other supplementary material that provided context for the story. I ended up wanting to read more Inuit stories. On the other hand, the historical notes meant while reading Fatty Legs I remained keenly aware that I was learning about a real time and a real place. Whereas, as I noted above, When I Was Eight was more like a fairy tale.Both approaches serve a purpose, as does having two versions that are intended for different readers. Each book provides a glimpse into the way of life of the Inuit, while also containing an inspiring universal message. There are two more books in the set, another chapter and picture book combo. It'll be interesting to see what Christy Jordan-Fenton writes next about her mother-in-law's experiences of growing up Inuit.

"When I Was Eight" is a poignant tale of an eight-year-old Inuit girl named Olemaun whose one desire above all else is to read. She wishes to go to the outsider's school (Reservation school) but her father doesn't want to send her for reasons Olemaun comes to understand much later. When she does attend the school, Olemaun finds herself and the other Inuit students being put to work, doing menial chores, and sadly, Olemaun becomes the target of a cruel nun who taunts and humiliates the young girl.The story is depressing but as my eight-year-old read this to me during our nightly bedtime reading, we both rejoiced in Olemaun's tenacity and fierce determination to not only rise above her oppression but to also realize her dream of learning to read. Yes, the story is incredibly sad, especially when one considers the abominable treatment these young children had to endure in a place that was meant to shelter, care for, and educate them. I spent some time discussing the themes in the book with my young daughter and she expressed happiness and relief that Olemaun was able to learn to read, despite all that she had endured.After reading "When I Was Eight", I discovered that the author had also written Fatty Legs: A True Story, which is a chapter book on a similar theme geared towards readers ages 9 and up. My daughter has expressed interest in reading the book, and I for one intend to read Broken Circle: The Dark Legacy of Indian Residential Schools.

We read "When I Was Eight" for our homeschool history study. We also read "Not My Girl". I recommend reading both books together for a more complete picture of Olemaun's experiences. Both books were beautifully written and illustrated, and made even more special because they are true. Written from the perspective of an eight year old child, "When I Was Eight" was very accessible for my second grader, and she really connected to Olemaun, and the story of being bullied by an adult (a mean nun) and having to be resourceful and tenacious in order to survive and thrive in an alien and hostile environment (the school). Written from the perspective of a ten year old in "Not My Girl", Olemaun has feelings of not fitting in when she returned to her family, but there is so much love and patience from her parents that she finally feels at home again. We loved both of these books so much we are planning to also read the longer books as well ("Fatty Legs" and "A Stranger at Home").Thank you to the authors and illustrator for such a valuable document written for children.This review was written by alias "Jumping Fish", age seven:" I read the book "When I Was Eight".
