Burke needs to have a relationship and marriage in order to inherit the family flower farm. Ashley is a wedding dress seamstress. They are running buddies that have known each other for years. She agrees to help Burke out with a fake relationship but then it gets real for Ashley. Can Burke come to his senses before it's too late and he loses his friendship and love with Ashley? This is a wonderful story set in Hawaii which makes it all the better.
What do you do when find yourself falling in love with your best friend? You hide it from him, of course. But then you blurt it out. The whole story was one of hurt which led to misunderstandings. There were times I really wanted to kick Burke in the rush and tell him to get it together. But he finally did. Loved the ending.
Cute little romance about best friends who try for a closer relationship. They both have a lot of baggage hence the story! Set in a beautiful beachy , tropical climate.
This one was confusing to me, because both of the characters weren’t sure what they wanted in life other than each other.
Burke, the main male character, is ready and anxious to take over the family Flower Farm in Hawaii (not sure which island). It is apparently a successful business. Burke's father is planning to hand over the reins once Burke has settled down and has a family to root him and his attention. Enter Ash, the main female character. She is Burke's best friend and running partner. They have been friends since childhood, along with Ash's brother, Leo. She makes bridal gowns and is successful. Her desire is to wear one of her creations when she weds. She is a caretaker for her mother who is recovering from cancer.Both Burke and Ash have been unlucky in love, leading them both to guard their hearts and feelings, When Burke tells his Dad that he is ready to settle down and take over the company, Burke names Ash as the woman he is dating. So begins the conflict. Burke asks Ash to play along with the ruse, not knowing that she is harboring a crush on him. And he develops a crush on her. Watching them grow through their feelings and come to the HEA is satisfying.There are a couple of areas which rankled me. The name of the Indian dress is "SARI". Having a successful business does not automatically make someone a Billionaire. There was no need to use the term, Billionaire. Money had no impact on the story whatsoever. (In fact, Leo was probably the billionaire). The main characters were 35 years old, but somehow felt like they were barely out of college. I enjoy clean reads, but the characters can be experienced, complex and have social lives.This was a good story. I will read more by the author.
I loved this story! Ashley and Burke are best friends and running partners. Burke’s family run business of a flower farm has been in the family for years. Burke has done everything to prepare for his father’s retirement, 2 college degrees, working from sun up to sunset, earning the respect of the workers. But to his dad it’s not enough, he wants Burke to be married and tells Burke that no marriage no farm. Burke’s solution, get his best friend Ashley to pretend to being in a serious relationship. Nothing goes as planned. Ashley is a strong character and knows what she wants. Burke has had his heart broken and is afraid of serious romantic relationships. Won’t give any spoilers but has a good ending. I am voluntarily writing this review of an arc copy. 💖📖
A really sweet story of how Burke and Ashley had been friends since they were teenagers. Her brother was Burke's best friend and he warned Burke not to date his sister in school. Now over 20 years later they have remained best friends and after Burke came back to Getaway Bay from pursuing his degree to use at his family's business they had met every morning to run along the beach together.But when Burke's father demands that if he wants to takeover the flower company when he retires he needed to be engaged or married as he wanted the business to be passed down through another 6 generations as it had been thus far. That demand set a plan into effect that would bring Ashley and Burke together in a fake relationship to please Burke's parents. But this plan goes terribly wrong. Had they really fallen in love, or were they just faking it to get the company?
I actually liked their relationship better as friends than as boyfriend/girlfriend. I was glad they worked it out in the end but they sure bungled it initially. I do like a fake engagement story line though.I guess owning a large business on an island is probably a key indicator to wealth but I feel like other than eating out all the time and never thinking a word about conserving costs there were no real indications that the story was about a billionaire. The story could have been told about some average income joe. I'll leave it up to you to decide if that is good or bad but it did leave the focus more on relationships than the billionaire aspects.I received a complimentary copy of this book and voluntarily chose to write a review.
