I can say that it is the first book that I read on my recently acquired Kindle which was a gift. Its copyright is dated 2001. The author, Don Whitney, is a pastor and seminary professor in the Southern Baptist tradition although it was clear to me that his is a Reformed Baptist background. He attended Law School for a time at the University of Arkansas before following a call to the ministry.As the title suggests, Whitney poses 10 questions that any believer ought to be asking him/herself to diagnose their spiritual health. Those 10 questions, which also serve as the chapter headings, are:Do you thirst for God?Are you governed increasingly by God's WordAre you more loving?Are you more sensitive to God's presence?Do you have a growing concern for the spiritual and temporal needs of others?Do you delight in the Bride of Christ?Are the spiritual disciplines increasingly important to you?Do you still grieve over sin?Are you a quicker forgiver?Do you yearn for heaven and to be with Jesus?At the outset of this review, I mentioned that for the first third or so of the book, I was finding that there was nothing particularly challenging in what I was reading. That ought to have been a cue to me that my pride and arrogance was getting in the way of very useful instruction. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit gave me a good nudge because while the book is not a difficult read, nor is it particularly long (141 pages in the paperback version) it really is gently packed with some extraordinarily penetrating challenges, provided you are willing to accept the examination of your spiritual health. I was very interested in the subject matter of this book, but when I went through it, I found the photographs to be lacking in movement and feeling. They were too staged and stiff and I prefer more moving, depth of feeling images.

Clearly more of a marketing channel for other services (albeit very subtle). At a $2.99 price I would have expected far more. This is, at best, a $.99 book. The only value was very limited general information could be found in one place. But the same value is easily available on the Internet. I did a Google search after reading this for "how to publish iBook" and found all the same information readily available - for free. Most of the material appears to be copy/pasted from Apple. I grabbed this book because I am looking forward to try out new platforms and didn't want to put all my eggs in the amazon basket...and this book was a good read as it throws light on the requisite essentials for publishing through iBooks.Even if you do not want to publish to Apple's bookstore, but you want to the use this tool simply for self-publishing, then get this book

Apple is coming to the e-books game, and I want to be there when they do. The author makes a good argument of why they will become bigger than Amazon. Decent beginner's guide. I would like to see a new version or another book by this author with more detailed and up to the minute developments for publishers already up and running on the iTunes bookstore. But I recommend this to publishers new to Apple's bookstore. This tells you what you need to know.

Just what I wanted -- a clear overview of the functions and features and distribution options of iBooks, in order for me to decide whether to invest my time and effort. Much more detailed and straightforward information (like costs) than I could dig out on the Apple site.

I had hoped that this guide would add to my understanding of iBooks Author, but it didn't. This small booklet is simply text, no illustrations or screen captures, and provided nothing new to me. A far better value is to browse to O'Reilly Media's website and download the original guide "Publishing with iBooks Author," copyright 2012. It's not only free, it is available in multiple formats so users can read it on Kindle, iPad, or use the pdf version.Perhaps Smolinski's offering is a first edition and the second one will be worthy of more than three stars. I hope so.
