We used this guide on our two week trip to Greece and found the information to be accurate and very useful. The map included was only of Athens which I think could easily have included one of Greece but we used our phones for GPS and did not end up needing the map very much at all. Our family prefers to move at our own speed and read up on sites before we visit so we did not want to hire tour guides. The book gave us just enough information to be really useful when at the sites.Where I found the book to be of most help was in the planning stages of the trip. The tips about language, driving, changing money and not using toilet paper were a boon since I would not have wanted to start figuring things out once we were already there. We did not use any of the hotel recommendations in the book (except for Hotel Byzantion in Mystras - which was a disappointment) and found that Booking or Tripadvisor were just as reliable for reviews for hotels and apartment rentals. The restaurants recommended were often the pricier ones or not where we happened to be at meal times so, again, websites were more useful on the fly.I don't think I will be using an in print guide for our next trip. As long as the location has good cell phone coverage, it seems that a lot of this information is now at your finger tips and hauling a book along does not make much sense anymore.

This 768-page book - the 13th edition of March 2018 - is an interesting and readable guide to the mainland of Greece and its accompanying islands. This is a well-designed and presented guide, with useful maps. This is not a glossy guide with lots of colour pictures, but it is a well-designed and laid out guide, with colour used only sparingly. It is intended to be a helpful guide to things to see and do, and not just a list of things to see and do.Note however that this book is covering a lot of ground, and while it is an excellent survey to help you find the highlights of a region, if you are only visiting a city or small locality of Greece, one of the guides that concentrate on that particular site would be of more use.It is broken down into four major sections:Page 4 - Plan Your Trip:This section is an introduction to modern Greece, explaining what to look out for (Greece’s Top 20), what you need to know in advance, and other important stuff for visitors. On the Road (“The Guide”):P060: Athens & around (with a fold-out map inside the back-cover)P137: Peloponnese (with 8 sub-sections)P198: Central Greece (2)P244: Northern Greece (3)P311: Saronic Gulf Islands (5)P331: Cyclades (21)P438: Crete (4)P495: Dodecanese (16)P572: Northeastern Aegean Islands (11)P633: Evia & the Sporades (2)P661: Ionian Islands (9)Page 708 - Understand:This section features articles on local culture (Ancient and modern) - history, nature & wildlife, arts, etc.Page 748 - Survival Guide:This section contains information on transportation, the A-Z Directory, andP765: LanguageP772: Index

Used in Greece for a long trip, the maps were a life saver. I've never thought travel books were worth it, but this one totally is!

If you've seen one lonely planet guide, you've seen them all. Very much in the same style as the others. Even on some of the less-visited islands, there was more than enough detail on what to do for a couple days.

Mostly good information

good

It covers everything in Greece but it doesnt go much into detail

Great book! Only drawback is it is very heavy to take on trip.
