David Keith Lynch (born January 20, 1946) is an American filmmaker, painter, musician, actor, and photographer. An invaluable resource for the serious Lynch fan. The questions are consistently smart and Lynch is rarely asked to do direct thematic analysis of his work. Furthermore this books does a great job of explaining WHY Lynch won't answer that kind of question.
This book is a great view inside the mind of David Lynch. If you want to know what motivated him for certain projects or if you've always wanted to sit down for a one-to-one with him, this book is for you.
Like the rest in this series, "Lynch on Lynch" is a collection of transcripts from interviews between Rodley and Lynch. Anyone who knows Lynch, would know that he doesn't like to reval too much about his films, so don't expect to have your questions answered. Certainly not a cheaters guide to understanding his films, but does give some insights. Not enough biographical info. Very little about Twin Peaks and Fire Walk With Me. The book ends with "Lost Highway", so no "Mulholland Drive" however you can see where lost ideas from past films have been resurrected. Interesting read for true Lynchians.
In reading this book I was surprised to find substantial chunks of quotes from interviews I'd done with Lynch many years previous to Rodley's book, woven into interviews that Rodley supposedly did himself. It threw the credibility of the entire book into question for me, and left me wondering where he got the rest of the stuff in his book. He should be ashamed of himself.
Lynch has such a fascinating list of movies and TV work, this is a great way of putting them all in context of his career. It made me want to see a couple that I had not seen yet.
Book arrived in perfect condition, exactly as described
Descriptions of his process and inspirations from the master himself. These conversations are as interesting as some of his best films.
