Diverticulitis Diet For Restored Intestinal Health: Diverticulitis Diet Program, Recipe Book (200+) recipes, Meal Plans, and 50 Essential Tips For Recovery (Tens of Thousands Already Helped!), by Michael Hohlweg

You have probably been told that you will have diverticulitis for life and that it will get worse over time. The opinion of author Michael Hohlweg is diverticulitis is not a mystery disease with an unknown cause. Michael goes further than explaining the cause. He has dedicated 20 years of research and exacting experimentation to eliminate flare-ups, attacks, infections, over-acidification, diarrhea, constipation and inflammation. He attacks the stigma of diverticulitis being "untreatable" with personal experience and a belief that doctors and pharmaceutical companies were focused on antibiotics, antacids, steroids, anti-inflammatories, procedures and surgeries and not on helping people eliminate symptoms. Once you understand this simple truth about digestive disorders, it is easier to understand that eliminating two symptoms can actually eliminate all symptoms. Over-acidification and inflammation are not diseases, they are conditions and they only persist when the few eating habits that create them continue. Michael shows you how to break the few eating habits unique to Western cultures where diverticulitis flourishes. Your diverticulitis is a product of eating style called "Catalyst Foods"; Catalyst foods is a term that refers to what Mike invented, which is a food ratio chart called "The Magic Ratio"; This magic ratio allows those who know the program to eat almost any food as long as they combine them according to certain rules. We know you have read and tried things before and you are tired of being disappointed. We know that doctors don't cure digestive disorders and you are looking for a simple, natural way to succeed. Pain Free Foods Includes: complete diet plan, 200 recipes, 50 things you need to know, and a 7-day meal plan. I am not someone who writes reviews for anything, but after just 3 weeks following this eating program, I have such wonderful results that I must share for others considering purchasing this book.I was diagnosed with diverticulosis in my mid-20's (around 1995) after I got salmonella poisoning at a restaurant. I was in and out of the hospital and multiple doctor visits for months on end. After a colonoscopy, they saw the diverticulosis, and it was severe. The poisoning really took its toll on my system. After a liquid diet and losing 30 pounds, I seemed fine again and resumed my normal eating habits (mainly of meat and potatoes - how I was raised).Flash-forward to 2012 with some tightness in my abdomen one morning. After about 30 minutes of stabbing pain, my infected diverticuli ruptured into my abdomen and I fell to the ground unable to walk. I was in the hospital 5 days on intense antibiotics. Luckily I avoided surgery, but have had cramping, etc. since then. At Christmas this year (2015), I got a tummy bug that ended up with me having 2 CT scans at the hospital for fear I was having another bout.I decided that living in constant fear of an attack is not going to work for me and began doing a ton more research than ever before. I came across this book. I read the reviews and was pretty optimistic, but after so many doctors told me over and over I would never get better, I was skeptical as well as optimistic.I dove right in once I received it and started to understand the diet recommendations right away. I put them into place immediately, made copied of the dine-out card for my car, my purse, my pantry door, etc.Sure, it's a different diet than most sufferers are likely accustomed to, but the concept makes sense. Eat smaller portions of food combined effectively so that the body has time to process the food and absorb nutrients without stomach acids. Simple. All that had to change was me and making a decision I would stick with it, and can still enjoy my meals! I just don't gorge myself anymore and stick to the smaller portions. The hardest part for me was giving up a bun on a burger, but lettuce wraps aren't that bad actually! Moreover, in sticking to the plan, I actually feel AMAZING! No cramping, no pains, no need to run to the kitchen for emergency Metamucil at 3am after eating a large, starchy meal.As I discuss this plan with my husband, what became clear as I look back is that when I had bouts of pain, landed in the hospital, etc. I can point to certain food combinations that caused me issues, and I just never put two and two together on my own! Meatloaf, for instance, always gives me cramps. Now that I have the dine-out card, I see I shouldn't mix ketchup with meats. Walla - problem solved!I'm only 3 weeks in and feel like this is a true game--changer for me. I can't wait to see how I feel after 6 months, 12 months and so on. For once in the longest while, I actually feel like I can do something proactive to help keep me from having surgery and/or a colostomy bag. And that feels very empowering! So, if you are a sufferer and constantly have issues - buy this guide and give it a try. You might actually be very glad that you did.Good luck to all diverticulosis sufferers - I know that it's not fun at all being in our shoes. And thank you to Michael Hohlweg, for producing this guide. I believe you have just changed my life.

EDIT 9/21/17: I eventually failed on Paleo, getting sick no matter what I ate. As a last resort, I tried the strict, whole-food, plant-based diet Dr. Greger outlines in "How Not to Die". The first 2 months required me to totally rethink 30 years of eating habits but the results were absolutely astounding. Don't listen to all the money-driven quacks telling you they "know" what's healthy. Eat plants. Live life. Be happy.EDIT 1/17/17: Removed one star. My health improved substantially on the Paleo AIP Approach and I gained back the weight I lost trying to follow this crackpot diet. Avoid this like the plague.I am a 32 year old mechanical engineer and have been struggling, severely, with diverticulitis for nearly 10 years. At 6'2", I used to weigh around 200 lbs. When I was 27, I finally broke down during a particularly nasty flare and took the antibiotics the doctors were shoving down my throat. Cut to six months later, I weighed approximately 135 lbs, and was nearly dead from C-Diff. Several well-regarded specialists proved completely incompetent in identifying and treating my affliction and outright refused my desperate pleas for FMT. I eventually beat C-Diff, though it cost me thousands of dollars and two years of my life. Worse still, my diverticulitis came back the same as ever, only now I had debilitating IBS to complement it. They offered surgery as a quick fix, and reassured me that my issues would never return. My mother ended up taking this quick fix, and after 6 months of grueling rehabilitation, her pain was back inside of a year. Meds are not the answer. Surgery is not the answer. This "book" is most certainly not the answerDetermined to regain control of my life I have read every book, scoured every blog, and watched thousands of online videos. SCD, Primal, Paleo, FODMAPS, gluten free, dairy free. Religious exercise. Organic, home-cooked food. I have tried them and continue to try them with exquisite diligence. None of them proved a magic bullet for diverticular disease but each of them contained at least something helpful. This book seems to contain more than a few of the better pieces of advice from other sources, which I why I gave it two stars. That said, the magical, mystical food combining principle extolled repeatedly did not prove to be in ANY WAY helpful to me, and ended up costing me precious pounds as I struggled to space meals out and balance with my busy life. The book is poorly organized and often self-contradictory, leaving desperate people second guessing themselves. Not to mention all the fake, "I bought this for my cousin and she loves it" reviews that are shameful and deeply harmful to a community that needs no additional help being miserable. There is no magic bullet. The surgery might work. It might not. It will definitely cost you 6 months and thousands of dollars. In the mean time, ignore the noise (this book) and consider adopting a grain free, whole food diet. Exercise like a fiend. Manage your stress. Meditate. Drink a lot of water. I highly recommend "The Paleo Approach" by Sarah Ballantyne as I personally believe Diverticulitis is an inflammation-driven autoimmune disease along the lines of IBD. (UPDATE: Eventually failed on Paleo. "How Not to Die" by Dr. Greger ended up being a true magic bullet). Your body is screaming for change. Time to listen.

My new food bible. Follow the instructions and guide lines and you will feel much better. The only negative thing that they don't mention is that if you have excess stomach acid and heart burn, skip the peppermint oil and tea until that gets under control or it will get worse. More stomach acid aggravates the Diverticulitis. The customer support is great. If you have additional questions, just call them and they will get right back to you with the answers. That alone is worth a lot. The food charts are easy to read and they have good references to look up other foods not on the charts.

I purchased the Kindle edition of this book. The referral to an online web site no longer exist. The recipes are good but you can't print them out. They are hard to print and read. This book is too expensive not to be able to print what you want

I just finished reading this book, and I finally feel as though I have a good plan to follow. It is not extreme, just common sense, with food groupings, and only a couple of items to be eliminated. There is even a guide for dining out, which I appreciate. There are lots of recipes too, which I look forward to trying!
