It seems to me that this author just needed to fill up pages to meet the requirements of her book contract. There is not one bit of useful info in this book. I kept thinking that I should write a book if this is all it takes. Way too much "humor" and not one nugget of wisdom in it. Do not waste your time or money with this rambling little book of no value. I don't know that I have ever returned a book before but this is either going back or going in the garbage because I wouldn't want anyone else to waste their time on it.

Whether a problem is big or small, whether or not it has a solution, worrying is not going to fix anything. While this book might not tell you anything you don't know, it delivers the message with humor and kindness (and, yes, snark as well) that might make it stick this time. I also appreciated that it acknowledges not all worry is created equally, we each react to the world around us in some ways that are unique to ourselves, and perhaps most importantly that some kinds of anxiety are best treated medically (and that's okay!).

I really enjoyed Knight’s first book, and her follow-ups were ok. But I didn’t get anything out of this one. I like her sarcastic humor but it felt overdone in Calm the F*uck Down, and I basically skimmed the last half. Disappointing.

I always love Sarah’s practical advice and the way she delivers it. I find her books to be some of the the most logical (I loved the logicats!) and find my self applying her no nonsense tactics daily. I recommend all four of her books. And she’s funny as hell! Thanks Sarah, I needed this!

I have three of her other books and really enjoyed them, but this one just isn’t doing it for me. Who knows when I will ever even get it finished...

I've been writing and studying screenwriting for a decade now, and generally like to read almost any book I can find about the subject, as usually every book has something unique and interesting to offer. I came across this book when I asked the question, "how would I know if I have a marketable project or not?" and a friend of mine did an Internet search and found this.I am by no means disappointed with this book, but I want to be sure prospective buyers are clear that the book is not written in the same way that Syd Field books, Robert McKee's book, or John Truby's books are. This book has full chapters on why writers should drink alcohol, and full chapters on why you shouldn't listen to people who slam you on the Internet. It's not academic, and is more focused on the lifestyle of a Hollywood screenwriter than on step-by-step, "learn the writing process" tips.Having attended USC and learned from Hollywood industry professionals first hand, I can vouch for the truth of Lennon and Garant's anecdotes about taking notes from studios, for example, and would strongly recommend this book to people who do not necessarily know what they're in for in Hollywood.What you get for your money is an insider's look at the industry from a couple of funny, interesting guys who wrote studio-catered scripts and made quite a bit of money for them. I do recommend this book to all screenwriters interested in a Hollywood career, but would recommend that they self-educate in the craft of screenwriting by using other sources. Making A Good Script Great by Linda Seger, and The Art of Dramatic Writing by Lajos Egri, are favorites of mine that I recommend for craftsmanship purposes.

I have never had a desire to write screenplays and now I really don't after reading this. I learned a tons about how Hollywood works and the whole process of how movies get made from the pitch to the execs to the finished product. They seem genuinely honest and up front about the whole process and what to do and what NOT to do. If you are looking for a way to get your foot in the door or what steps to take to get your screenplay out there than this is it. They try to tell you how to actually wrtie a screenplay but I wouldn't use this as a true guide in the art of that but they include outines that are the guts of the screenplay. They have a glossary/index of what/who people are in the industry. They just explain so much and do it with extreme wit and humor. I recommend this for anyone who likes to read and be entertained like myself or again for someone needing a point in the right direction if this is what they might want to get into.

This book is full of great advice on how to make a living as a Hollywood screenwriter. You know that from reading the reviews. What you may not know, however, is that this book contains the sequel to the first (and only) Reno 911! movie, titled Reno: SOS!Lennon and Ben Garant state in the book that the key to writing a great screenplay is to write a thorough, detailed outline. At the end of the book, they include their outline for Reno SOS. It's supposed to serve as an example, but it winds up being possibly the best part of the book. The story follows the Reno 911 crew as they try to capture a serial killer that eluded them over fifteen years ago. It cuts back and forth between 1989 and the present, serving as a sort of origin story for the characters as well as an absolutely hilarious Reno 911 movie. The best part: it's so well-written that, if you're at all a fan of the show, you'll be able to visualize everything that's happening.Sadly, Reno SOS! will never be made. The authors explain that, while the first movie was profitable (it cost 9 mil to make and made 22 million dollars total), it didn't generate enough money to consider a sequel. This is the only way you'll get to "see" this hilarious flick.Again, this book is full of great screenwriting tips, but it's worth reading even if you don't care about writing movies. Reno SOS! is at the top of the reasons why.

The book , although very funny, is a rude awakening to those who plan to hit the lottery by writing a good movie script. I now look at hitting the script wring jackpot in a more realistic manner and not the through the rose colored glasses that many of us view success in the movie industry. The book is very easy to read and is very informative, the information comes from guys who are actually successful in making money from writing scripts for movies. I am glad I purchased it for the ease of understanding Hollywood and for learning who is actually making all the money and who is being taken, this book will truly help you get on your way.....or tell you to keep your day job.

If you believe being a screenwriter is the gig for you, pour yourself three fingers of your favorite nosh and read this book. Then decide. Do you have the ego strength to be fired? You will. Can you live with the fact that your career can be screwed up and you did everything they asked? It can happen. If you weren't neurotic enough, this book will put you in need of some serious therapy. Seriously. This book explains how the studio system works for writers (and where the real money can be made).

This book is definitely a conversation piece. It will keep your guests entertained for a bit as they flip through the pages. However, I just don't think it's worth as must as I paid for it. The cover art is soooo captivating. But I must admit, I was a bit let down upon receiving the book and reviewing it myself.
